ENOUGH OF THOSE MISREADING SENSORS, RIGHT?

YOU’RE CAUSING YOUR TANK SENSOR PROBLEMS

You may be surprised to hear this, but your own tank cleaning habits are likely causing your sensors to misread. We get it — you thought you were doing the right thing. Maybe your dealer or the manufacturer gave you some (now incorrect) instructions. Or you read somewhere online what you thought was the right thing to do. Perhaps some video or post from a social media RVer “explained it all” and seemed to make sense. Or that family member, friend, or the guy next to you at the RV park who’s been RVing for decades gave you some free advice.

But you may be shocked: All of that advice is likely the cause of your tank sensor problems.

Let’s examine some common problems and why people think what they are doing is the right thing.

Not using enough water
Without a doubt, RVers who don’t use enough water while using their RV’s plumbing and tank system is the number one cause of misreading tank sensors. You may think your RV’s toilet, sink, and shower are similar to your home’s (they look the same, right?) but using an abundance of water in your RV will definitely help to keep those sensors reading accurately (it’s always a good idea to have them professionally cleaned first).

Using a commercial tank additive
This is a big one and you would think you could trust those companies making a tank solution to treat waste in your tanks. The truth is, when you add a tank additive that liquifies, breaks down, or dissolves what’s in your tanks, it is doing exactly that: Making your tank full of a thick, sticky, and smelly slurry of waste that is fouling tank sensors (even those fancy new ones that stick to the outside of the tanks and use a sort of sonar to read the capacity inside). Stopping the use of these additives is a HUGE step in getting your tank sensors working again.

Leaving the valves open
While we think of black tanks as being the most dirty, an RV’s gray tanks can be almost as bad — or even worse! Gray tanks tend to accumulate molds and mildews, which thrive in the dark, damp, and warm environment inside a gray holding tank. Just as our 2,000 PSI hydrojetting process scrubs your black tank clean, it also thoroughly cleans your gray tank, removing mold, mildew, food and human waste, and any other debris or build-up present in the tank.

Not emptying your tanks when they are full
Tanks that are full of water and waste will empty faster and more completely, resulting in the likelihood that tank sensors will read more accurately. That “whoosh!” of water and waste that comes out of full tanks gives a suction effect that evacuates more waste and makes tank perform better. If you need to empty your tanks and they aren’t full, just add more water until the sensors read 80% to 100%. Can’t get the sensors reading accurately, well, we know someone who can help!

Not having regular, professional tank cleaning service
You make a point to have regular service on your car, right? And you know you should have your home’s furnace, water heater, and other systems checked on a regular basis. So why not have your RV’s tank professionally cleaned once or twice a year?
